Mercury Vapor Light bulbs: -- High Intensity Discharge Lamps
Mercury Vapor Light bulbs were the first widely accepted HID lighting source. Mercury vapor lamps (without color correction) produce a blue-white light. Mercury vapor light bulbs have the longest life of this class of HID Lighting.
Mercury Vapor require a special fixture and ballast for each type and wattage. The bulb wattage must be matched to the ballast rating. To small a bulb and over heating will occur with a disastrous effect. To large a bulb and the life of the bulb will be shortened and may not light up. Leading to early ballast failure.
